D-Mannose

D-Mannose is a monosaccharide that occurs primarily as part of a larger macromolecule. It is not as sweet as sucrose and is a good sugar substitute for diabetics.

It is also an important component of the bird flu virus particle. When carbohydrates are metabolized, mannose is phosphorylated by hexokinase to form mannose-6-phosphate.

D-Mannose Function

• Responsible for O-glycosylation of helper T cell-derived cytokine interlukin-17A (an important cell signaling molecule)

Dosage

In order to prevent frequent urinary tract infections, the experimental research dose is 2 grams per day, or 1 gram each time (twice a day). For the treatment of active urinary tract infections, the dose is 1.5 grams twice a day, for 3~ 5 days.
