Thymoquinone has been shown to affect many different signaling pathways in various types of cancer, including P53, P73, TWIST1, nf-κb, MAPK, PI3K/AKT, PTEN, STAT3, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (ppar-γ ) and reactive oxygen species (Ros). This makes it a promising candidate for an anticancer small molecule.
Thymoquinone has been shown to induce apoptosis in cervical cancer (Siha and C33a), leukemia (HL60), human sarcoma(MG63 and MNNG/HOS), skin squamous cell carcinoma, and gastric cancer (HGC-27).
