Mucuna pruriens extract
Mucuna pruriens extract is derived from the dried seeds of Mucuna pruriens, a plant of the genus Mucuna in the Fabaceae family. It contains components such as L‑DOPA, proteins, alkaloids, tannins, phenolics, and flavonoids, as well as active substances like catechins and β‑sitosterol. L‑DOPA, a precursor to dopamine, is present at approximately 5% in the dried seeds, and the extract product can be standardized to a L‑DOPA content of 10%–30%. L‑DOPA has multiple functions, including replenishing dopamine levels in the brain, protecting dopaminergic neurons, reducing neuroinflammation, alleviating motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson’s disease, as well as improving mood, relieving stress, and enhancing cognitive function. Mucuna pruriens extract holds broad application prospects in the fields of adjunctive therapy for neurodegenerative diseases, functional foods, mood‑support dietary supplements, and anti‑aging cosmetic products.
